Hi there, and welcome to Inspire Me Online. While I hope to share many interesting insights with you, I thought I should start of with a little introduction about myself.
The importance of education was instilled in me and my siblings from a very young age. We did not have much when we were growing up , but what I can remember is that my dad always bought books for us. This was the beginning of my passion for reading and learning.
In my teenage years I developed a passion for teaching and decided that someday I would like to be a teacher. Fortunately, I was able to achieve this and began my teaching career in the 80s. I started out as a secondary school educator, teaching English and Afrikaans.
As time went by it disappointed me to see that there was a general lack of interest and enthusiasm amongst the learners to read, let alone develop a passion for reading and learning.
My thought was always that it is important to promote a love of learning from a young age. After a few years I decided to change my narrative and moved to the early childhood development phase. This was an important decision and to this day I have absolutely no regrets.
The enthusiasm and eagerness of young children to learn is so refreshing and rewarding. Like a sponge, they are eager to soak up knowledge and are so enthusiastic about learning new and amazing things.
One of the most rewarding things for me, is to see pure joy on their little faces when they get things right or improve certain skills that they struggled with previously. To see them gain confidence in their abilities is extremely rewarding.
There are so many areas of early learning in which children are given opportunities to learn and grow. For example, Language and reading development, numeracy and maths concepts, fine motor, gross motor, creative and so on.
After many years in the physical classroom, I have moved on to creating an online store to help parents, teachers and therapists find a range of products (varying in price) that promote development and growth of children’s minds and bodies.
